I agree with Member of Parliament of Nee Soon GRC, Lee Bee Wah’s proposal in Parliament 'No Cleaners Day’. I feel that it is a very good idea and initiative, it can be introduced as an education campaign and it should be held annually. This is the time to bring out the message to the public that the cleaners should not be the only ones in keeping Singapore clean, the public has the same roles to play too.
I really pity the cleaners and personally I happened to know that cleaners are working very hard to keep Singapore as clean as possible. Some of them report to work as early as 6.30 am, just to clear away all the rubbish created by litterbugs. My neighbourhood is almost no litters when I am out to school, but sadly, the same place turns into garbage environment when I pass by again after school. Residents then blame those innocent cleaners for not doing their jobs well. This is something that makes me feel unjustified. Smokers are one of the biggest culprits of littering. For instance, smokers in my estate will always throw their cigarette butt on the floor after their puff. This occurs even when there is a rubbish bin near sight. It is common to see motorists who smoke while driving, finish their puff, flicking out the cigarette butt on to the road. It is then followed by high rise littering by inconsiderate flat residents, throwing out litters such as used tissue papers and food wrappers. They are the minority maybe, but it puzzled me that after so many years of education, I thought we should know better. I complement those who did not litter. But, I condemn those who know in their heart that they had littered and still blame on someone else. Hence I feel that MP Lee’s proposal is effective and works well with Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Vivian Balakrishnan statement that the government should consider giving formal training to citizens and to also review the fines and penalties. In my opinion, ‘No Cleaners Day’ should be held at least twice each year, without any early mention of dates to the residents. ‘No Cleaners Day’ should be announced to Singapore residents on the actual day, to stimulate that the cleaners are not always available to do the cleaning. Residents still have the overall responsibility of keeping Singapore clean. This is part of a formal training to teach the residents not to be over dependent on cleaners and always need to play their own roles. With that, I really hope that the government will take up MP Lee’s proposal and it will be a huge success. Start with small goals and get to bigger ones once your belief level is already high. Belief is another key element that you must have in order for your desires to manifest. So what are you waiting for? Dream, believe, and then manifest now!
Recently, I read an article about 'Skeleton dog' in Singapore recovers from abuse. It is about Prince, the emaciated dog who was on the brink of death just four months ago. Today, it is recovering well all thanks to the kind lady and animal welfare group HOPE Dog Rescue who adopted and took proper care of it.
Reading the above, it is touching to know that with a little "Tender Love and Care", it makes such a "Big Difference" in the dog's life. On the bright side, I am glad that Prince has recovered, after going through four months of pain. Certainly it's a one very happy article for animal lovers. "He has also been adopted by perfect “mummy” for him, as she is a full-time homemaker and is able to care for Prince with full devotion." – This lady indeed is commendable to care for such a dog. On the down side, I am really upset about abusive actions done man to animals. I am an animal lover who owns a pet. Pets are amazing creatures who will always keep me accompanied. I feel bad when one starve animals. Animals are like humans, they should not be tortured. It is cruel to let the dog starve to bones. Put yourself into Prince’s shoes, would you choose to be better off in comfortable house or in the hands of torture & abuse by your supposed "caregiver". You will definitely choose to be better off in comfortable house, so does Prince. To the person whom tortured this poor dog will not be better in his life. There is a saying that what one do on Earth, everyone is watching and sooner or later the person will receive his punishment. I am sure he will feel guilty throughout his entire life. Regardless of what excuses the abuser gives, some form of punishment must be meted out for animal cruelty. I hope that there is action taken against the guilty one. This to highlight to the public that anyone caught abusing animals will be dealt with seriously. In my point of view, the current fine punishment isn’t effective enough to stop animal abuse. Hence, I would like to bring out some suggestion to the authority. 1. All caught animal abusers, regardless of age and sex, should be sentenced with at least a stroke of the cane. Allowing the abuser to have the same feeling pain, to stimulate the same feeling when the animals are being abused. This will help the abuser to better understand the feelings of the abused animals, by going through the same process of pain. 2. All animal abusers must go through a compulsory counselling session. This is to allow the authority to better understand what the animal abuser is taking of, in order to change their wrong mindset. At times, such counselling service is useful in providing emotion support, so that they will not vent their feelings on animals, reducing animal abuse. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." -Mahatma Gandhi So, stop animal abuse today! |
