Why MOE make changes to the syllabus so suddenly? For instance, this year there is a change in Secondary School English syllabus this year, and I am one of the students taking the new English 'O' Level paper in 2013. My batch of students cannot adapt to the sudden big change to syllabus, it is totally a different paper as compared to the current ones. Given that we have less than two years to prepare ourself for the change. Please do bear in my mind that we were trained in the old syllabus since from sec 1. Hence it is unfair! Shouldn't MOE introduce it only to 2013 sec 1 batch onwards? It is to allow the 2012 & 2013 sec 3 batch, will not have the disadvantage of having lesser time to prepare ourself for the new 'O' Level English paper.

After reading the news entitled “Letter about leaving S’pore strikes chord with readers” (07/09/12) on Yahoo! News, I am totally disappointed with Zing, the author of the letter. I believe other Singaporeans, including me, will feel ashamed of fellow Singapore Citizen, Zing, posting such discriminating messages about his homeland online.
From my point of view, Zing had neglected all the effort that Singapore government in shaping Singapore to what it is today. He is bias to Singapore and indirectly scolding the government. Is Singapore the only country everywhere full dollar sign? No, many countries, e.g. Japan, are also expensive to live in. Don’t judge a country by its cost of living! Being a Singaporean, Zing must be loyal to his own country. He should not say any hurting comments to his country. He definitely needs to change his attitude, by not critising his own homeland. To tell the truth, the power of change does not only comes from the leaders (such as Prime Minister, Ministers, Member-Of-Parliament etc), it comes from every Singaporean. The power of change lies in our hands, be an active contributor and voice out your opinions to the leaders. In this way, you are a leader of your own, shaping Singapore’s future. We must also take into consideration, whether your own suggestion is sensible or valid, in order to persuade the government leaders. In conclusion, Singaporeans should stop complaining about every small single thing happened during their life in Singapore. We must learn to adapt and make good use of the current good living environment. I shall end of with a National Education (NE) message: Singapore is our homeland; this is where we belong. We, Singaporeans as one, should treasure our heritage and take pride in shaping our own unique way of life. 1. What do you remember most about your school days in Bartley? I will always remember those programmes that the school put me through. For instance the Sports Education Programme. (SEP). SEP offers Bartleyan a variety of sports to learn, ranging from sailing, golf, wrestling, karate etc. I feel that SEP is part of Bartley's education system where I am encouraged to learn and participate in a new sports training. I remember that I went to Singapore Wrestling Foundation in 2010 to learn wrestling skills from professional coach. I left the course with more confidence in myself, now I am able to protect myself from any danger. Thank You Bartley, and I will never forget SEP! 2.What do you miss most about Bartley? I miss those overseas learning journey that was conducted by Bartley Secondary School. My overseas trip to Beijing and Xian is always unforgettable. That was the best opportunity for me to bond with my fellow schoolmates and classmates throughout the day for a week.It was a fun time where my friendship with them became stronger. At the same time, I get to learn more about China's history and observe how lessons are conducted in two different China school. Guess what? I was able to visit one of the amazing seven wonders in the world- Great Wall of China! I would like to take this opportunity to tell Bartley that I really enjoyed the overseas trip to China. A big thank you to Bartley Secondary School for giving me the opportunity to travel with my friends and learn new knowledge! 3. What are your well wishes for Bartley? Happy 60th Anniversary! I would love to extend my most appreciative gesture and thought to congratulate Bartley’s 60th Anniversary. This is a great achievement for Bartley to be a value-added school for 60 years, always committing to touch the lives of not just hundreds, but thousands of alumni over the years. I have benefited from all the wonderful programmes, which I proudly acknowledge. I have confidence that it can continue to reach greater heights and with many more decades or centuries of glories to be achieved in future. Keep up the good work! It doesn't matter where you go in life or what you achieve, or what you do - what matters most is who you have beside you along the way! |
