However, I believed that something can be done to prevent these minority group from growing. In my opinion, all schools should use the 'praising' method or student initiated projects for students’ character development to be successful.
Praising method refers to commending students’ good actions through various forms – verbally in front of the whole school, school’s newsletter and commendation certificate. For example, my primary school (Pei Chun Public School), would always announce and praise all the good deeds done by the students. In hope of getting other students to jump on the bandwagon of do good deeds.
Student initiated projects can be a time where students coming together to form groups to do meaningful things to serve the community. For instance, my secondary school (Bartley Secondary School) have student self-initiated community projects, also known as Values In Action (VIA). That is a platform to nurture the value of social responsibility in all students and to raise their awareness that everyone has a role in enhancing the well-being of the community and the country without getting any cash rewards in return.
Students may then develop a habit to demonstrate exemplary values and civic responsibility.
For me, whether there is any award, I still live up to my school core values: Respect for self and others; Integrity our way of life; Passion for learning; Excellence our Pursuit. I will do my best in both academic and non-academic areas.
