"Dragonfruit and turmeric had their hot pink and yellow pigments teased out of them on Tuesday.
The challenge put to a team of Normal stream science students from Bartley Secondary School was to extract the hues from these plant products and make them into useable paints.
The three-member team soaked the plants in alcohol or boiled them to extract the pigments, and then used the colours to paint a picture - all within an hour - to take the top prize in the 'INKpressive' category.
A total of 31 schools took part in the IgNITE Science Challenge, an annual science competition for Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) students, at the Science Centre Singapore on Tuesday."
