It is scary for both bus passengers & bus drivers to travel through quiet private housing estates or roads surrounded by tall trees, during the early morning hours and late at night. There are usually very few passengers on board. Predators may take this opportunity to act on their victims in the bus. Those crimes committed could be robbery, molesting or even hostages (worse case scenarios)!
I feel that the current security measure on public bus isn’t enough. All I see is buses have installed CCTVs and a system for drivers to activate help from headquarter. I have never seen any police officers deployed to move around Singapore on board public buses to prevent, deter and detect crimes.
Hence, I would like to suggest that Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) to introduce the same security measure as placed on MRT, where officials will make their rounds on board buses to look out for suspicious people, activities and items. Also, police officers could help out at times by taking public bus when doing their rounds of patrolling in the neighbourhood, instead of driving police cars.
Finally, I would like to thank Singapore Police Force for maintaining the peace of our land up till today! Just remember to brief up security on buses to prevent such horrific crime like the above from happening in Singapore!
