Day two of the SEASC 2014 swimming finals kicked off with the Women 50m Butterfly. Team Singapore athletes splashed to a resounding success with 2 Singaporean swimmers - Marina Chan and Tan Jing-E coming in the top 2 positions respectively. The bronze medal went to Jenjira Srisa from Thailand. Marina Chan also broke the meet record by clocking a time of 27:49.
This was followed by the Men 50m Backstroke. Team Singapore swimmers Ong Jit-Eng Kevin, Francis Fong and Low Wei Yang Malcolm came in 4th, 5th and 6th positions respectively. The top 3 positions went to Gede Sudartawa and Ricky Anggawijaya of Indonesia, and Khoi Tran Duy of Vietnam respectively. Gede also broke the meet record by clocking a time of 25:52.
Then, in the Women 100m Freestyle, the gold medal went to Natthanan Junkrajang of Thailand, while Marina Chan from Singapore clinched the silver, followed by a bronze medal for Lim Xiang Qi, Amanda, also from Singapore.
Next up was the Men 200m Individual Medley. The first position went to Triadi Fauzi S of Indonesia, clocking a timing of 2:02:05, breaking swimmer Quah Zheng Wen’s meet record in 2012. The second place went to Ketin Nuttapong from Thailand. Singapore swimmer Pang Sheng Jun helped Singapore to claim a bronze medal in this event.
The penultimate competition for the day was the Women 200m Breaststroke. Our very own Samantha Yeo took home a silver medal with a timing of 2:35:95. The gold and bronze medal went to Thai swimmers Pawapotako and Salubluek Chavunnooch respectively.
The second day of the swimming finals ended with the 800m Freestyle Relay, where the Singapore team started strongly and led throughout the competition. Team Singapore won the gold medal with a timing of 7:35:75 while Indonesia came in second.
